WAM insurance mandatory
In the Netherlands the Segway i2 & x2 SE and the Ninebot by Segway E+ when used on public roads. These products are motor vehicles within the meaning of the Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance Act (WAM). This means that when using the vehicle on public roads, the vehicle must be WAM insured.
At least 16 years old
In the Netherlands the minimum rider age is for Segway en Ninebot by Segway products 16 years.
Lighting at night and in poor visibility
Lighting is mandatory at night and in poor visibility. This should primarily be the lighting on the vehicle. Is there no lighting on the vehicle? The driver can then use separate lights. The vehicle must always have red and white/yellow reflectors.
Insurance tag required
As of January 1, 2011, the license plate requirement is Segway i2 & x2 in the Netherlands expired. There remains an insurance obligation Segway i2 & x2's and Ninebot by Segway E+ that drive on public roads. As of January 1, 2011, insurance tags will therefore be issued by the insurance company. The insurance period runs until May 1 of each year as standard. Insured persons receive a new insurance tag from the insurance company every year. This is allowed from January 1, 2012 Segway i2 & x2 only with an insurance plate on public roads.
Segway PT allowed on public roads
On March 25, 2008, the House of Representatives passed two motions on the Segway i2 & x2 adopted. The general use of the Segway i2 & x2 are permitted on cycle paths and carriageways in the Netherlands, provided a maximum speed of 25 km per hour is maintained. When used on the sidewalk, the maximum permitted speed is 6 km per hour.
Ninebot by Segway E+ permitted on public roads
For the Ninebot by Segway The same rules apply in the Netherlands as for E+ Segway PT. The Ninebot by Segway E+ must be insured and the insurance tag must be on the Ninebot by Segway E+ must be confirmed before driving on public roads. The Ninebot by Segway E+ is just like the Segway i2 & x2 allowed on public roads. The same traffic rules apply as for the Segway i2 & x2.
